Interlude: Someone's a Jerk To Rob Liefeld - People Disapprove

In news that you all know already, Rob Liefeld was totally insulted and belittled by a douche in a yellow hat. In a rather unexpected move he managed to not really react or care at the time.

Now I'm not a fan of Liefeld. I think he's part of a disease that is bad artistry. But that's just a critical look at his art style, where it doesn't suit my preferences. Or is completely buttfuck insane. That doesn't mean I agree with someone being a complete cunt to someone who puts his heart and soul into his work (no matter how bad that work is).

This guy... Is un-fucking-believable. To feel you're owed an apology for something you could have just NOT READ or just straight-up ignored is ridiculous. But to go one step beyond and belittle the artist AND give him a copy of 'how to draw the marvel way'...

I'm a dick, but this guy is a CUNT.

We're promised that the three main characters are Brand, Beast and Lockheed, which as good line-ups go is awesome. Surely this will be a surprise hit of the future.

MORE CORNELL AND KIRK! DARK X-MEN

The bonuses just keep coming for yours truly this week, with the Captain Britain and MI13 team of Paul Cornell and Leonard Kirk teaming up again for a new limited series, this time focused on the DARK X-MEN!

I've been loving their content on Dark X-Men: The Beginning and seeing that evolve into a larger mini for them is a pretty good bonus.

Still the two main points are this:

Two characters are whited out of the Dark X-Men foursome. Bets are on that it's either Weapon Omega and Emma Frost or Weapon Omega and Mystique as far as I can see. Please be Mystique. I don't know why.



X-Man will be returning. A pretty good Jeph Loeb creation whose best moment was admittedly an All-Saints Day one shot (prove me wrong fans!)

These two facts are enough to get people excited and interested. Though in all honesty it's still the MI13 team getting back together that's doing it for me.

New Thunderbolts Writer Announced: Jeff Parker

HOLY.
SHIT.

So it's been announced that JEFF PARKER is taking over what was once Marvel's best superhero comic (Busiek's opening run specifically). This is the best possible choice outside of putting Fabian Nicieza back on it. Parker is one of the future greats of Marvel (the rest of whom will be revealed in the top ten writers conclusion) and needed something this high profile to get him up to that pinnacle.

Why is he the best possible choice? READ AGENTS OF ATLAS! The tone of that series is similar in feeling to the original Thunderbolts, though it's more of an opposite version of the original plot with heroes masquerading as villains. Sure, Parker has said the tone will still be a lot like Warren Ellis and Andy Diggle's runs but that brilliant tone will hopefully sneak in before long.

I don't think I could be more excited without Marvel announcing Baron Helmut Zemo returning as the star of the series. Ah, but that is just a dream.

Interlude: John Hughes

Been feeling like making a post here about John Hughes, deceased director of some of my favourite films (planes, trains and auto mobiles is still one of the funniest films of all time). Kinda hard to think of anything clever enough though. I mean I didn't know the person, just loved his works. so with that in mind let's show the funniest scene in all of his works.

Also, unlike the rest of the people who have been honouring him, I'm remembering how fucking awful Maid in Manhattan and Drillbit Taylor were.... Yeah.

INTERLUDE: Whoop More Nomad!

In all my efforts to get back to updating with reviews and such I had this completely pass me by, but thanks to Hex's Fifth Column I've had the fortune to know about the art only preview of NOMAD: GIRL WITHOUT A WORLD #1 over at newsarama. This stuff is beautiful and has gotten far more stoked for my anticipated series of the year than anything before it (which regular readers will know is RIDICULOUS).

So we kick off with Rikki peeking in on BuckyCap, as part of her want to be HIS Bucky. A pretty cool page, mainly just for that little box showing where she is on the page.

Black Widow is a character I haven't cared for since her hair grew again (weird right?) but I'm just biased so instead of thinking how awesome it'd be for them to chat I'm thinking... the page is pretty.

Probably not a plot point: Rikki considering becoming an alchoholic, gazing longingly into a fridge at a shop.

Ya know, this is all just setting things up, but it's pretty awesome. Both pretty and setting the scene at the same time.

.... Strangely hot, loathe I am to admit it. Oh who am I kidding I love to admit it.

And we end on the awesome coloured in pencil work we saw last month. The colours have added so much life to it and make for pretty impacting stuff. Man I'm stoked.

So there you go, barely a post but fuck it Nomad is a peculiar focus of this blog.

Interlude: PLANET HULK

Oh yeah, this is what I'm talking about. None of that Wolverine and the X-Men crap, none of that live action movie bulltwaddle. We're talking 100% kicking arse adaptation of one of the best Hulk stories about (the other best ones being World War Hulk, Peter David's Prof. Hulk stuff and anything with She-Hulk in the title). I have high hopes for this.

Though as we all know I won't really care about a Hulk animation till it features Lyra.

SDCC Moment of WHA?!: Toxin

Figured for the little name-drops or hints of stuff I'd make a new sort of post for the SDCC stuff (I know the convention has a different name but fuck it).

This little tidbit comes from the Cup 'o Joe panel. It's just a tiny reassurance but also JUST enough to get my hopes up:

There are no current plans for an Alpha Flight series or the character Toxin, although Quesada noted that in-audience editor Steve Wacker would respond well to threats of violence when it came to the latter question. More serisouly, Quesada viewed Toxin as a case full of "untapped potential for the character, but the Spider-Man plate is pretty full."

So yeah, there's always a chance that my favourite Symbiote will return. Also I'm taking Quesada up on that acts of violence towards Wacker thing. Toxin has one of the best limited series around and deserves more attention, especially now the world's been changed by Brand New Day.

Pointing it out is pretty redundant but the man is of great interest to me, handling characters like Cannonball and Legion with the sort of respect you don't get from other writers.

• Wells has no plans to address Cannonball's status as an immortal X-ternal. Good.

• Wells would love to see Cassandra Nova appear in his book?

Continuity alert! Officer Patricio Oliver is reporting for duty and needs to know where Sunspot was on the night in question:

How come Sunspot was portrayed as part of the Hellions team in “Dark Avengers/Uncanny X-Men: Utopia”? And will the team have a role in the “Dark Reign” crossover?

The X-Men/Avengers crossover takes place between issues #4 and 5 of “New Mutants,” so while the team does have a role in “Utopia,” it won’t be playing out in our book. Believe me though, Fraction has some big things going on with a few of the characters, and we’ll grab the football without missing a beat come issue #5.

OH THANK GOD! It all makes more sense now! Back to the bullet points:

• Zeb Wells is a jackass who fucked up with Sunspot saying "madre de dios" (self-confessed)
• The title "New Mutants" will take on a whole new meaning come issue 9... WILL THERE BE SOME ACTUAL NEW MUTANTS POST M-DAY?!
